La Trappe - My New Fav Beer

I'm not really in the right state to type this because I just downed a bottle of beer and I'm definitely feeling it. One bottle? C'mon what a pussy!

Nah, this is 8% beer and I'd had a Stella before that.

A couple of weeks ago I discovered a new Dutch beer (which I like to try since my family is from there), called La Trappe. It comes in a variety of strengths ranging from 'blond' 4.9% or the like through 'dubbel' at 7.5%, 'tripel' 8% to 'quadrupel', at 10% alco rating. The story of who makes it is even more intriguing. It's made by an association of monastic monks called Trappists. They are Roman catholic but in their association, drinking is not abstained so they make beer to consume and sell to the public. They practice silence and manual work. I'm not into religion, but I find it pretty cool that these dudes make such an awesome beer. Now I'm determined to visit their brewery sometime one day when I'm in Europe next.

Anyway, last time I got a pack of Blond's which were good, this time I got Tripel's, which at 8% is surprisingly really easily drank. It's flavoursome but not bitter or heavy. You can tell it's more alcoholic than other beers however which isn't bad! It's $15 for a 4-pack.

I recommend this as it's a beer which is special in a couple of ways, yet tastes good!

Apart from that, life is going well. At work, everyone is mourning the redundancy of a well respected and loved co-worker. Things in the industry aren't going well - mining projects on hold, utility expansions delayed, contract decisions still pending. So sales are down and people are being disposed of. It's a sad reality at the moment. But even more sad for those affected by the recent bushfires. My dad just got home to Heywood from being over in Kinglake where he commanded 44 firefighters, and said what you see on TV is nothing. I'm always left wondering what that can mean. I donated $50, after I saw the horror people were being put through. I've been a firefighter in the past, and what I heard about and saw on TV was nothing that I'd seen while fighting bushfires around Portland. My work raised a total of just over $100k, $50k of which was donated by staff and matched by the company.

Anyway, 'till later, peace.
