Photography Here I Come
I don't think I have blogged about it before, but I have been wanting a digital SLR (DSLR) camera for years. Ness thought she'd get me one for my 30th (next year) but I have been talking about it lots the past few months, so I got it early! Thanks babe, you're awesome!

My D60

The past few weeks I have been doing a lot of research and choosing the right one. At first I wanted a Nikon D60, then I changed my mind for a few silly reasons to get a D80. Then a week ago I decided I would stick with the D60 but get a good lens. It has the same sensor and image quality but a few extra features, and it's a little bigger. I also wanted it to be compact as we'll be carting it around when we go travelling (like South America next year - have I spoken about that yet either? don't think so), and I got it yesterday.

My D60

It's an awesome cam, and I'm really happy with it. I can't use it yet, because we got just the body and I've ordered a Nikkor DX VR 18-200mm lens from Adorama in the States. The reason why forthis is, we shopped around a fair bit and you can get cameras cheap from online Aussie retailers, but it's imported stock, and the warranties are a bit dodgy. They don't offer you a warranty, but the camera 'comes with one', from Nikon. But the stores say that Nikon won't allow you to do that as they don't warranty inported stock. So anyway, Teds have a great warranty setup, with lots of support, and they do price matching but not to online retailers. We found Digital Camera Warehouse has a store-front and they have the D60 body for $80 cheaper than Teds so we got them to match it. They did but we also got a few extras like extended warranty, 8GB Sandisk memory card (fast one) and UV filter.

My D60

Teds have a good price on a D60 with packaged lenses, a 18-55mm VR and 55-200mm VR, but these lenses are quite cheap and plasticy. I decided then to get the all-in-one 18-200mm VR lens, but it's shitloads more from Aussie retailers than from the States. So I ordered one and it'll hopefully arrive next week before we head off to Queensland (haven't blogged about that yet either). I cannot wait.

The cam is quite light and oozes good quality craftmanship, it will do everything I've always wanted to do, just depends on the lens. I've never been happy with my digital camera and the D60 will allow me to do things manually, and get the best photos possible. I have always wanted to get into photography, and people ask if I'll take a course, but I'm not entirely sure. I wouldn't want to do a beginners one with mums and pops as I think they'll teach them what I know already so maybe an advanced one. We'll see.
